Interview with the owner of Barnes General Store in Knowlton

1. Describe what you do.

I have been a house painter for 25 years and owner of Barnes General Store in Knowlton for 8 years.

2. What do you like about the area?

People and nature. The population is warm and well oriented. I never get tired of landscapes. For me, it is the most beautiful region of Quebec.

3. What is your current hobby or passion project?

I am very passionate about cycling. I am spoiled for choice when I go out. The routes are pleasant and diversified. A tour of Brome Lake at the end of the day is a great way to end the day.

4. What is your favorite place in the area? Describe what you like.

We live in a bucolic area, so it’s hard for me to pick one in particular, but I will say that I love walking the Coldbrook Trail, which starts at the mill and runs along the lake. We have the forest, the lake and the peace all in one.

5. Do you have asecond one to mention?

You might say I’m being parochial, but the Barnes General Store is a really nice place to visit. It is a place where the history of the village has the best to offer with a country atmosphere and personalized service.

6. Do you know of a well-kept treasure in the region that deserves to be known?

Sunsets at Tiffany Beach. The sun sets behind Mount Bromont with Brome Lake in the foreground. Wonderful.

7. What is your favorite restaurant in the Townships?

There are several: the Star Café, for breakfast and lunch; Chez Moi Chez Toi, for lunch and dinner, for its original dishes and Indian flavors that cannot be found anywhere else; and Le Loft, for its tapas and wine bar.
