Over the years, the Eastern Townships have been home to many literary personalities, such as the famous Louise Penny who lives in the beautiful village of Knowlton. Here are some more.

Anne Fortier

Born in Denmark, Anne Fortier lives in the village of North Hatley, nestled at the north end of Lake Massawippi. Fortier is the author of the New York Times bestseller Juliet, as well as The Lost Sisterhood, and is working on her third novel.

Her New York Times bestseller, JULIET, was released in 2010 and has been published in more than 30 countries worldwide. It should surprise no one that the inspiration for the book came from a trip to Siena with Anne’s mother, who is still Anne’s go-to authority on all things Italian. Before becoming a published author, Anne emigrated to the United States to work in film. She co-produced the Emmy-winning documentary FIRE AND ICE: THE WINTER WAR OF FINLAND AND RUSSIA and holds a Ph. in the history of ideas at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Anne currently lives in Quebec with her family.

Francine Ruel

Francine Ruel first wrote two novels for children(Des graffiti à suivre… and Mon père et moi) and two stories for everyone. She has also published several novels, including her famous Happiness Saga, which has sold nearly 150,000 copies.
