Remarkable cottage in Phillipsburg

The cottage is located on the shore of Lake Champlain, a few meters from the American border, in the heart of the Phillipsburg Bird Sanctuary. The land is composed of two plateaus separated by a steep cliff of more than 10 meters and a gentle slope access to the lake, a rare privilege in this area. It offers a magnificent view to the west on this immense body of water. The three-storey chalet fits into the landscape like an observation post on the surrounding nature. The vertical circulation in the chalet offers a view of both the cliff, to which the building almost leans, and the lake, barely veiled by the long-trunked trees that line its shore. The rooms are largely windowed. Two large terraces, on the upper levels of the south side, allow the occupants of the premises to inhabit the landscape and to continue its contemplation. These terraces fragment the volumes of the chalet already separated by slight offsets between the southern, northern and central parts (where the staircase is located). These plays of volumetry are also underlined by variations in the color or installation of the wooden facade coverings.
