Describe your passion, your business: The interesting thing about antiques is the stories they have to tell. Some of them have had a fascinating journey before arriving in my store! I feel privileged to have access to these objects and to be able to find the right home for them. Paintings, silverware, historical and unusual objects are what interest me most.
In your field, describe what sets you apart: My inventory is renewed regularly and I offer a varied and eclectic selection of quality antiques, paintings and decorative objects from the 18th to the early 20th century.
I am also associated with Peter Baker Antiques, a specialist in 18th and 19th century folk art and pine furniture from Quebec. Two stores under one roof!
Tell us about the path that brought you here and into this field: Collecting has always been a part of me. Already at a very young age, I collected matchbooks, sports cards, marbles and coins, encouraged by my uncle and grandfather. It was only a matter of time before I naturally chose this path.
After studying art in college, I worked for several years for auction houses in Montreal (Fraser – Pinneys). My wife being originally from the Eastern Townships, I quickly realized that this region would become my new home. That’s how I opened, 10 years ago, a cosy store in the village of Knowlton.
A proud event: I recently acquired an important oil painting (A View of Quebec City from Levis), given to Lady Laurier in 1897 by Louis Fréchette, a renowned poet and politician. Lady Laurier (Zoe), being the wife of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Prime Minister of Canada.
What is your favorite regional restaurant or product in the Townships: Read the morning paper with a latte at Le Cafetier in Sutton.
