One of the owners of the place, Daniel Loiselle, remembers the modest beginnings of the tourist enterprise. « When we bought in 2003, there were only 28 spaces. The roads were narrow and it wasn’t even cleared. We had the bare minimum, » he says.
In 2010, in addition to the 150 caravanning spaces, there are 108 modular houses. Since he has been at the helm of the Domaine, Mr. Loiselle estimates that he has invested approximately $2 million. And that’s not counting the additional $2 million for the expansion project. The reasons for this choice are simple. First of all, the demand was there, » says the owner. « We experience an increase in our customer base of about 25% to 30% per year. Even last July, when the weather was not on our side, we had an occupancy rate that exceeded 90 percent. »
Secondly, the project also aims to meet new government standards. It’s getting stricter and stricter and those who can’t comply have to shut down and that’s what we’re seeing more and more, » says Daniel Loiselle. The wastewater treatment system we recently installed is more efficient than some small municipality plants. We’re really on the cutting edge of technology. »
The Domaine des Cantons is a family business. « I bought this for my children who were not interested in the construction business, » says the man who is also a contractor. Marie-Ève and Benoit Loiselle, accompanied by their spouse Pierre-Luc Lambert and Stéphanie Cardinal, are in charge of the daily management of the site’s activities. The company was recognized in 2006 as the most beautiful site at the Awards of Excellence of Camping Quebec. A nomination at the Grands prix du tourisme des Cantons-de-l’Est in 2008 has also been added to their list of distinctions.
