Covered patios and porches

Here are 3 styles to give your garden a personality

Porch coastal

With environments as elegant as these – moss dripping oaks and stately columns – the style of the porches is more understated. A zinc and cypress-covered tree trunk table blends in perfectly with the landscape, as do the patinated urns and pots the designer found at Scott Antique Markets in Atlanta. Topped with an arrangement of beautiful and vibrant hydrangeas; the flowers provide a splash of color, and the other matches all the needs of this porch. The rest, white, beige and green, creates the most sophisticated southern scene. To relax in the evening, the chandelier is lowered on a rustic rope; when its candles are lit, the magical scenario is over.

The essential decorative element is the white color used in the furniture, bedding and walls, with some accents of bright or pastel colors. Wall and ceiling finishes are usually made of painted wood paneling. Floors are left natural, often using soft honey or dark mahogany wood finishes.

Appalachian round porch

An unusual feature, a bar-inspired drink bar, wraps around this circular porch and provides a convenient (and elegant) place to set down a cup of cocoa, tea, your favorite beer or an iced cocktail. The style of this porch takes relaxation to new heights, literally. Hanging candle lanterns can be lit during outdoor evenings, and the high beams of this porch, formed from a deep wooden compass, leap against the cream-colored roof and columns. This design feature gives the porch an airy, cathedral-like quality, which is then made modern with the help of the bold, dark wicker furniture and the cheerful mix of colors and patterns set against a coral background.

Piazza à la Charleston

This porch is filled with cozy wicker furniture in traditional Charleston green, recognizable by its deep, almost black forest color. Durable, all-weather materials, such as wicker-like resin for frames and outdoor fabric for cushions, keep maintenance to a minimum and are perfect for all seasons. A few luxuries add comfort; nice pillows and jets can be quickly slipped in during bad weather. Y-iron based tables with polished marble tops are the perfect companions, as they combine simple lines with elegant materials.
