1 – Dustin Hofman in Austin
Barney’s World
In 2009, the small village, located near Magog, saw the arrival of Dustin Hoffman and the team of Barney’s Vision, a $25 million Canadian production. Hoffman, a two-time Oscar winner, plays Izzy in this film based on a novel by Quebecer Modercai Richler. For this role, he received a Golden Globe nomination.
Paul Giamatti(Twelve Years a Slave, The Truman Show, Man on the Moon) and Minnie Driver(Good Will Hunting) also took part in the filming, as well as the Quebecer Macha Grenon.

2 – Susan Sarandon in Austin
Emotional Arithmetic
In 2006, Susan Sarandon, Oscar-winning actress for her role in Dead Man Walking, filmed Emotional Arithmetic in Austin. The $5 million production stars Roy Dupuis, Gabriel Byrne, Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow.
In a nutshell
Emotional Arithmetic is the story of three survivors of Nazi concentration camps who meet again 40 years after the Holocaust.
3 – Pierce Bronsman in North Hatley
Grey Owl
Several scenes from Grey Owl were shot on the shores of Lake Massawipi in North Hatley in 1998. The film stars Pierce Bronsnan known for having played James Bond four times. The fact that the film’s producer, Jake Eberts, has a residence not far from the filming location contributed to the super production coming to the Eastern Townships.

Inspired by a true story, the story features a British Archie Grey Owl, who is passionate about the Ojibway tribe of Indians, poses as a Native American trapper and has a romantic relationship with an Iroquois woman.
4 – Chris O’Donnell in Sherbrooke
Love And War
British director Richard Attenborough chose Sherbrooke as the location for his film In Love and War starring, among others, Chris O’Donnell and Sandra Bullock.
In a nutshell
This feature film is about the youth of the famous American novelist Ernest Hemingway. Wounded, Hewmingway (Chris O’Donnell) is sent to a military hospital where he is cared for by nurse Agnes von Kurowsky (Sandra Bullock), with whom he falls in love.
5 – Richard Gere in Potton Township
I’m Not There
Somewhere between Highwater and Mansonville, in the rural settings of Potton Township, director Todd Haynes has recreated Missouri and Kentucky. He shot several scenes from the film I’m Not There, a whimsical tale about the life of singer Bob Dylan. Other scenes from this award-winning film were shot in Montreal and Rawdon. Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger also shared the bill.
