The modern farmhouse ?

The modern farmhouse, what exactly is this style? Ten years ago, the term “modern farmhouse” might have referred to a newly constructed farmhouse. Today, it evokes a checklist of decorative elements that add up to something a little country, a little raw and an abundance of white. Panelling? Yes. Reclaimed wood? Yes. White walls and wide plank floors? Yes. Some vintage accessories, an apron sink? Absolutely.

The modern farmhouse style aligns with many of the values of this idealized life: a healthier, traditionally oriented life – a world in which we have time to relax with a cup of tea on our white couch or share a meal around a beautiful table filled with local produce.

The New York Times first used the term “modern farmhouse” in an October 2016 article describing the work of Jersey Ice Cream Co.
