The mini house

What does a minimaison look like? These properties offer a living area generally ranging from 100 to 400 square feet. They can be built in recycled containers, on a trailer, machined or built from recycled materials.

Despite the smallness of the place, most of the houses have a functional interior with a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room, a dining area and a bedroom on the mezzanine. Of course, the space must be arranged with care and ingenuity!

The interest in minimization is based first and foremost on economic considerations. These small homes obviously cost less to build, but they also result in significant savings in terms of heating, maintenance, furniture, etc. We also appreciate the fact that they are more ecological.

The only problem is that the number of municipalities that allow the construction of mini-homes is still limited in Quebec. It is therefore important to check the municipal bylaws before going too far in your steps.

One thing is for sure, homeowners are making the choice to simplify their lifestyle and say goodbye to most of their material possessions. The savings generated then allow you to work fewer hours or have more money to pursue passions such as travel.

Will you fall under the spell of the minimaisons?

Wisconsin’s Canoe Bay Company, carried out this meticulous project entitled ESCAPE. Looking like a beautiful cottage, this building is however nothing more than a motorhome in disguise. Surprising, isn’t it?

With over 400 square feet of space, a master bedroom, full kitchen, large porch and beautiful architectural details, it seems this mobile home takes camping to a definitely higher level. All for about $80,000. Are we going on the road?
