Isabelle Daval’s favorites

Interview with Isabelle Daval, owner of Hors-Cadre, a studio/gallery that welcomes artists on a weekly basis.

1. Describe what you do.
Painter, I opened in spring 2015 Hors-Cadre a studio-gallery in which I receive artists in creative residency on a weekly basis from mid June to mid October. These artists offer a training workshop during their residency, a novelty that was a great success this year.
Currently in preparation for the 2nd edition of ”La grande exposition des petits chefs d’œuvre” which will take place in November: About fifty artists from the Eastern Townships will each exhibit 3 small formats.
This great exhibition will be followed, for the first time this year, by an Off-Site Christmas Market from December 10 to 24, an unquestionable encounter with local talent.

2. What do you like about the area?
The beauty of the landscapes, the proximity of skiing, swimming, snowshoeing, walking or motorcycling… The attractions of the neighboring villages or towns, combined with beautiful encounters with friendly people.

3. What is your current hobby or passion project?
Creation in all its spheres in painting, sculpture and entrepreneurship.

4. What is your favorite place in the area? Describe what you like.
Knowlton, the beauty of the landscape, the quietness of the lake, the Mill Pond, the walking trails, the beauty of the historic houses, the tall pines, the snow on the tall pines…

5. Do you have a second one to tell us about?
The back country when you get lost in the ranges, St. Paul, Spicer, Brill Road and Tibbits Hill.

6. Do you know of a well kept treasure in the region that deserves to be known?
Yoga on the docks of the marina with Jaime… Heaven on earth…shhh! Otherwise, there might be a lack of docks …

7. What is your favorite restaurant in the Townships?
I love all the Knowlton restaurants for their good and diversified food and their friendly owners, without being chauvinistic of course!
And of course the restaurant Carrément Bon, in Cowansville, of my chef friend Patrick Roy, artist-potier very present at Hors-Cadre.
