Field Trip #1 this weekend

Campton, Eastern Townships

Lisette Proulx, founder of the event Les Comptonales tells us:

“I came back disappointed from an event in the same genre. It was in a tent. There were a lot of impatient people waiting in line. Finally, when we got to the end, it wasn’t the producer we were meeting. Let’s just say it wasn’t what I expected. I wanted to go to the country instead, meet the producers, have a field trip.”

His disappointment was the spark plug for the Comptonales. I wanted to test the waters to see if people had a desire to create this kind of event,” says Proulx. So I sent out 50 emails. We organized an evening at Aux petits sabots. The barn was full. From there, we pulled on the wire.”

The first thing you discover is the region with your eyes: covered bridges, round barns, rural landscapes. Then the sense of smell starts to work, and there, it’s a party. Between the artisanal cheeses, the scent of flowers, the cooking apple pancakes and the cow dung, we don’t know where to put our nose! The ear is not left out: a crazy ball and a choir come to sing in the shade of a blueberry field. Here, everything is an excuse to look, touch, taste, listen, and exchange.

TIPS:

You should plan a full day or two to really enjoy the destinations. In 4 1/2 hours, we managed to visit the 3 most popular destinations: the village of Compton, the cheese factory La Station de Compton, and the orchard Le Gros Pierre. Seeing the huge crowd on Saturday afternoon, I will try to arrive in the morning next year. Since I’m not a fan of crowds, I’ll also explore other foodie destinations. The experience has certainly made me want to try it again, especially since I still have a lot of products to discover! Suite >>>
