A night in a teepee

For camping in a wilderness environment with some comfort, we go to the Tipis de la Rivière Sauvage. We spend a quiet stay, without electricity, in an original wooden tepee. Full of magic!

For a total change of scenery, stay at Aux Tipis de la Rivière Sauvage, in Saint-Romain, in the Eastern Townships. Eight years ago, Lucie Poisson and her family built five huge wooden teepees. Installed on platforms, they are heated with propane or wood. The Rising Sun, Blue Bird, Beaver and Coyote tipis are 6 meters in diameter and sleep up to 4 people. The Moose, which can accommodate up to 6 guests, is more imposing with its 8 meters in diameter and 10 meters high. The latter is magnificent, all wood (both the walls and the furniture) and particularly warm. We like the proximity of the tipis to the Sauvage River and the distance between each one to ensure a certain intimacy. The places, unique to get away from the daily routine, are peaceful, splendid and in harmony with nature. The deer in the wild add to the magic of the stay.

Equipped tipis

Each tepee has a fire pit, a terrace with a barbecue and a stove (stove top) for preparing meals outside. Inside, there is a sink, a counter and original rustic kitchen furniture designed by the owner’s father. Cutlery, crockery, a double sofa bed on the first floor and a double bed on the mezzanine, which is accessed by a ladder, complete the equipment. The tipis have no electricity or toilets, but there are two dry toilets in the forest. At the reception, about 150 meters from the nearest tepee, there is a warm toilet and a shower!
